Black paradise fish inhabits in sluggish, swampy of water bodies, with elliptical and laterally compressed body, black to grayish body; during spawning season, males exhibit a dark colour; males have a maximum size about 12cm while females about 8cm.
In 1997, AFCD try to breed Black paradise fish artificially and the result is encouraging. Within that year, more than a hundred of adult were obtained from 4 pairs of parent fish. In 1998, 40 adult with different size were put back to nature.
Black paradise fish courtship is interesting. After building a bubble net, male and female spawn in a "courtship embrace" under the net. Male fish will then gather and place the eggs in the nest, and drive the female off, take care of the brood by itself until they hatch.
Everyone can enjoy watching them near steam in country parks, especially in sunny day.
