Guidelines for geological studies

Guidelines for geological studies - The Ma Shi Chau Special Area is an ideal place for geological studies and therefore we need your assistance to protect and preserve the site. Excavation, collection and damaging of rocks, minerals and fossils within the special area without a permit are strictly prohibited. Also, please do not disturb the organisms and the ecology of the surrounding environment. For your safety, we also suggest the following safety guidelines:

  • Note the tide level before the trip and make sure you have adequate time. For tidal information, please call 187 8970 (24 hours) or 2926 8447 (Office hours) of Hong Kong Observatory.
  • To leave the site before the tide comes in.
  • Design a route that all participants can finish.
  • Beware of sharp edges on rocks as well as loose, slippery and rugged ground surfaces.
  • Terminate the trip and stay in a safe place if the weather turns bad.
  • First aid kits and mobile phones are necessary safeguards for all outings. Bring spare cloths and shoes in case you need to change.
  • Please keep the site clean and place rubbish in litter bins.

To know more about the safety precautions for outdoor activities, please consult the ¡§Hiking Safety Booklet¡¨ published by the Agriculture and Fisheries Department or visit the web-page of the Country and Marine Parks Authority (www.afcd.gov.hk).
