Nature's colouring and freeze-thaw cycle
Nature's colouring and freeze-thaw cycle -The rock surfaces here are cracked and reddish-brown in colour. They were once buried underground. Underground water carrying insoluble iron oxide seeped through fractures called joints, leaving iron oxide to settle. This gave the rocks a characteristic rusty appearance. The passage of underground water also rounded the corners and edges of the joints. Subsequently, the weathering and erosion processes exposed this once buried geological feature. Consistent exposure to the sun created an interesting nodular appearance in the rocks.
