Cheese on pizza - quartz veins

Cheese on pizza - quartz veins

Cheese on pizza - quartz veins-What is so interesting in these rocks? There are some thin white masses and stripes in the rocks, some just look like the cheese layer on top of pizza! They are made up from mineral called quartz. Quartz is used in the production of electronic parts which are essential components for electronic clocks and communication facilities..

The rocks themselves are fractured quartz porphyry. In the past, a hot solution migrating along the fractures and silicon dioxide (SiO2) precipitated out of the solution along the walls. Weathering and other processes have exposed this interesting feature which is the quartz veins you can see today.
