A struggle between lives and the environment - seashore vegetation and beach

A struggle between lives and the environment - seashore vegetation and beach -You might wonder whether the beach deposits would be carried further inshore. The answer is that they won¡¦t because the coastal vegetation stops the beach deposits from moving up the hillside. Plants commonly found along the shoreline of Ma Shi Chau are Cuban Bast (Hibiscus tiliaceus) and screw plant (Pandanus sp.). These are both common coastal tree species in Hong Kong. Coastal plants must be specially adapted to survive in this harsh environment with salty water, wave erosion, and poor support from loose substrate. Can you suggest how coastal plants can adapt to these constraints?
