Despite the small size of the territory, Hong Kong has an amazing wealth of insect fauna. Among them, butterflies, moths, beetles, flies and bugs altogether account for some 80% of all known species.

The purpose of establishing the Insectarium is to enable the public to recognize the rich insect heritage we are enjoying and arise people's interest in these tiny crawly creatures which have very close relationship with our daily life though often being taken for granted.
