Value of Shells

Shells have a special status in the world of collectors, artists, scientists and environmentalists. Shells have attracted human interest and admiration due to their rich colour, elaborated shape and beautiful sculpture. They are the subjects of study of scientists and they also illustrate the richness of biodiversity in the nature. By introducing these natural treasures to school children and the general public, the Shell House will serve the purpose to cultivate their appreciation of beauty in the nature, and thus promote their awareness of conserving the natural environment.

Shell House Display

The Shell House will provide a comprehensive and systematic display of local and overseas shells, which will highlight their values, biological interests, classification and conservation of shells.

So far, there has been no public shell display centre in Hong Kong. Thus the Shell House bears special importance in promulgating marine conservation, the scientific and aesthetic value of shells.
